Have you ever read a story, watched a film or maybe taken a trip where at the end of that story, film or trip, you are not the same person you were at the beginning? Something in that experience left you different, more awake, more aware, better. It was a blessing.
pbloom@mirowitz.org
Such is the case for me this year as we read V’zot Hab’racha, the last parasha of the Torah. It recounts the final words of Moses to our people, including blessings for each of the 12 tribes of Israel.

Benjamin is offered the blessing of safety; Joseph, a blessing of bounty; Asher, a blessing for security…and so on. Each blessing is exactly the thing that tribe needs, and each will assist in bring forth a better world for future generations.

pbloom@mirowitz.org
I am struck by God’s desire to give each tribe exactly the blessing they need, and am keenly aware that this can serve as a model for us as parents and as educators.

Children get only one childhood, and parents have the monumental responsibility of ensuring that it is filled with experiences that set them up for success and lead them to become their best. At Mirowitz, we are your partners in that sacred undertaking.

Small class sizes allow our teachers to focus on what each of their students need — intellectually, socially and emotionally.

pbloom@mirowitz.org
Just as important, we purposefully empower our children to share their unique hypotheses and perspectives, to make their own mark, to find their own “letter in the Torah” (as your younger students did this morning), and to become the leaders our world needs.

And that is the greatest blessing of all.

Chazak chazak v'nitchazek!

Today, our youngest students had an up close and personal look at the Torah.
pbloom@mirowitz.org
We unrolled the Torah on tables in the connector, and your children each found the first letters of their names and learned about the painstaking work that goes into writing a Torah.
Along with Jews around the world, we end and immediately begin our perpetual cycle of reading the Torah on Simchat Torah. It is a symbol of our people's ongoing commitment to Jewish learning...a commitment that you demonstrate by sending your children to Jewish day school.
pbloom@mirowitz.org
I invite you to participate in our weekly Torah study on Thursdays from 8:45-9:15 a.m. on Zoom or in the Beit Midrash.

Prepare to be amazed not only by the skilled chanting of the words, but by the insightful student-led discussion applying those words to the way we live our lives.

After a straight set match win over Andrews Academy of Lake St. Louis, our middle school girls volleyball team dropped a home game to Living Water Academy 16-25, 14-25. The team's record stands at 3-5 with three matches to play, including next Wednesday at Whitfield School.
On the soccer field, our Kindergarten team earned a 6-2 win.  Damilola scored a pair of goals while Meira, Levi, Ethan and Jameson also scored a goal. The team improves to 2-2-1 on the season.
pbloom@mirowitz.org
Our 2nd grade boys team shutout their opponent 2-0.  Goals scored by Aaron T, and Daniel S.  For Aaron, it was his team leading 7th goal of the season. The team won its second straight game by shutout.
Our 3rd/4th grade team tied 6-6.  Yoni scored 3 goals in the game, and leads the team with 11 goals on the season.  2nd grader Yishama added a pair.  With the tie, the team's record sits at 2-1-2.
pbloom@mirowitz.org
Despite goals from Nadav S. and Penelope, our 1st graders fell in their game 4-2, and our 3rd grade girls dropped their game 6-1.  Abigail B scored her second goal of the season.
Basketball registration is underway.  If your child would like to play, please email me at glerner@mirowitz.org.

It's tour season...and I love sharing Mirowitz with prospective families. Some come with lists of questions, and after 15 years, there is hardly a question I have not heard before. Yesterday, I was asked my favorite question of all: What difference does a day school make? That's an easy one!
pbloom@mirowitz.org
• Day school grads express an extraordinary sense of responsibility toward influencing social values, helping those in need and effecting social change. Alumni parents surveyed consistently say that Mirowitz prepared their child to be an advocate for others.
• Day school graduates are more resistant to social pressures that lead to risky behaviors than their public and private school peers. (See Prizmah study)
pbloom@mirowitz.org
• Jewish day school students are equipped with Jewish literacy and a proficient knowledge of prayer. We love that community rabbis rely on our graduates to teach their religious school classes, to lead youth services and to serve as youth ambassadors to their boards.
• Graduates of day schools are predisposed to use their leadership skills to strengthen Jewish communities. At a gathering of student leaders at the Hillel foundation, 70 percent indicated that they had attended a Jewish day school. 100 percent of alumni parents surveyed say their Mirowitz graduates were involved in Jewish studies and community organizations during high school.
pbloom@mirowitz.org
• Jewish day school students develop a profound commitment to Israel. Our alumni tell us they feel well informed about Israel and comfortable engaging in discussion about Israel on campus.
• As St. Louis' only pluralistic Jewish day school, Mirowitz fosters a value of diversity and the ability to maintain relationships that preserve the diversity of our community.
pbloom@mirowitz.org
At Mirowitz, all of that is combined with the highest quality of academics and daily discussions about living an ethical and just life.
Hundreds of parent testimonials like this one affirm it: "I think it's fair to say that my son's foundation of responsibility, academic success and positive Jewish identity were solidified at Mirowitz! It was the best parenting decision we could have made." (Ann, mom of 2018 graduate)
Every Jewish child should be so lucky! If you have a friend who would love Mirowitz as much as you do, let me know, and encourage them to take a tour.

Thank you, always, for loving Mirowitz Out Loud!

We'd love for Mirowitz to be the first thing people see when they google "Best Schools in St. Louis." You can help! Will you give us a 5 Star Review on on Facebook or on Niche?

Then...tell your friends about the great year your children are having, and encourage them to come for a Taste of Mirowitz. (We're having this info session online so young parents don't have to hire a babysitter.) You can learn more here.

My grandson was disappointed that there was no school this week (for the first few days of Sukkot). How many middle school boys complain about a day off of school?

Mirowitz is the best investment in our kids' future. At the most influential time in their lives, they are learning to be inclusive, open minded, confident and kind.

My favorite thing about Mirowitz is the character development that happens every minute of every day at our school. Every lesson in secular studies and Jewish studies is an opportunity for growth both academically and emotionally.

When we were leaving his 8th grade graduation last year, Sam said to me, "Mom, this really was such a special place to grow up. Maybe I'll come back and be a teacher here one day. I really think the teachers here love what they do and it really makes a difference."
