Every year at this time, we tell the very same story. And every year it offers new meaning to us as we evolve in our own curiosity, perspective and education.

I walked into a Middle school Judaics class today and was blown away by the integration of text study, artistry and intellect. The students have been studying Gamliel's text from the Hagadah imploring us to explore the meaning of Pesach, matza and maror to tell our story.

They expressed their ideas creatively in an Agamograph, inserting their own experiences into the story of Passover freedom, along with their perceptions of the pascal lamb, matzah or maror into the story. Like the story we retell each year, these works of art demonstrate how we can see the same story from different angles.

At Mirowitz, we know that Jewish learning doesn't just give us answers, but ignites curiosity and lasting memories. This is why we invest in adventures like our trip to Egypt.

Okay, so it is an imaginary trip to Egypt. This morning, our kindergartners woke up at the crack of dawn, dressed up as Israelites, and dramatized the story of the Exodus. Morah Sagit led them through the Sea of Reeds, and Reb Scott and their parents waited for them on the other side.

The young Israelites baked matzah over a campfire and rejoiced in their freedom.

Mirowitz students have been studying Passover from every angle - even growing maror in our garden. Fourth graders listened to archived recordings of liberation stories from American slavery and compared them to our Exodus liberation story. Our youngest students learned the four questions, and generated their own questions.

As I write this, I hear the sound of children practicing the four questions, and I know your seders will be filled with meaning and joy.

May the stories you hear and tell this week ignite your curiosity and grow your appreciation for the holiday of our liberation.

Chag Kasher V'Sameach and Shabbat Shalom,

Cheryl

An undefeated week for our youth baseball teams!
Our 4th/5th grade team won their game Sunday 16-1.  Evan W. pitched three strong innings with six strikeouts, and capped his day by hitting a two-run homer.
Sammy G. had a double and a grand slam. Benny A. made two plays in the field. Every player reached base safely. Our 4th-5th graders improve to 2-0.

Our 2nd/3rd graders won their game 14-12.  Coach Drew Newman applauded "big hits from Henry, Josh, Joey, Davi and Eliot which led the team to the win, all of this in front of St. Louis Blues player David Perron" whose child played on the opposition."
Our 1st graders improved to 2-0 with a 24-17 win.  Yishama was on fire at the plate, launching four balls over the outfielders.  The team played solid defensively, which proved to be the difference in the game.

Middle school was rained out on both Monday and Thursday.  The next game for this team is May 2nd.  All of our teams are off through Spring Break, and elementary teams resume play on Sunday, April 24th.
If you ordered but didn't receive your child's basketball picture, or you would like your child's picture and you haven't ordered, please email me at glerner@mirowitz.org.

Our hearts are with our Mirowitz families who have relatives in Ukraine, and who have already suffered losses. Our concern for the Jews in Ukraine, in Russia, and all over the world continues to rise as we are brought back to darker times of war and division.

May God who makes peace in the heavens bring peace upon us, upon all Israel and all the world.

Because of Passover, we don't have Challah to sponsor this week...but we did burn the chametz on the basketball court! For the traditional Pesach ceremony, Reb Scott invited each grade to submit flammable "clean-up" materials--traditional  chametz (food products containing wheat, barley, rye, oats, or spelt) or non-toxic flammable items that have outlived their welcome in the classrooms room.

We'll be back with Challah sponsors after Pesach.

What a great event. So glad the kids had this experience. I bet they will never forget that leaving Egypt was part of kindergarten. ❤️
