Have you seen the mosaic hanging above the sofa in our lobby? It includes drawings of trees, insects, rainbows and streams, and it represents diverse interpretations of the blessing
Mah Rabu Ma’asecha Adonai! (Oh how wondrous are your works, Adonai.) The words come from
Yotzer Or, a blessing we recite each morning in praise of God’s creation.
Like that mosaic, Mirowitz brings together a diversity of students and families with unique perspectives, backgrounds, identities and experiences. What does diversity look like at Mirowitz?
|
|
|
Nearly 1/3 of Mirowitz students are either immigrants or children of immigrants from countries like Russia, South Africa, India, Iran, Uruguay, Philippines, China, Ethiopia and Israel! |

19% of our population identifies as people of color.
We represent all denominations of Judaism, and are members of 12 congregations. We are Jews by choice and Jews by birth. We are Ashkenazi and Sephardi and Mizrachi. We are Reform, Conservative, Orthodox and “just Jewish.” And we have families who are Jewish-adjacent — not Jewish but are connected to the Jewish community.
We are LGBTQ, straight and cisgender. We sometimes fit into categories and sometimes do not.
We are nuanced and interwoven and interesting. We are a mosaic of diversity.
|
|
|
The Mirowitz faculty is working to advance our celebration of diversity, and make sure that every Mirowitz student feels honored for their identity. Under the leadership of Morah Shannon and Reb Scott, we are exploring Diversity Equity and Inclusion — institutionally and educationally.

|
|
We are aligning our curriculum with the social justice standards from Learning for Justice, incorporating marginalized voices and empowering students to understand a variety of perspectives.
We are proud to be a place where a mosaic of children can come together to become capable and confident Jewish leaders who have a sincere respect and curiosity of others that does not diminish their own identity. Mah Rabu Ma’asecha Adonai! Oh how wondrous are the 173 students who bring their unique selves to Mirowitz every day and, in understanding themselves, add to the diversity of our world.

The Mirowitz middle school boys basketball team earned a 38-7 victory last night over Principia. 8th grader Jacob G led the team with 24 points. The night before, the boys won a game against Living Waters Academy 31-19. In that game, 8th grader Jacob G led the team again with 22 points and 9 rebounds. The boys are 5-2 on the season.
Our 4th-6th grade girls also won last night, but in a nail biter, defeating the 6th grade girls from Principia 22-20. 6th grader Hallel tied a Mirowitz girls basketball record with 16 points in the win. The team improves to 2-1 on the season. Both of these teams are back in action on Tuesday at Child of God Lutheran school in St. Peters.
Don't forget: it's time to sign up for Baseball. If you would like to register your child for a Mirowitz baseball team, please send me an email.

Wow! You've kept me busy lately! |
|
|
I've been to visit so many of you this week while you lay sleeping. Thank you for leaving such beautiful teeth under your pillows. I hope you enjoyed the surprises I've left in their place. |
|

Please tell your teachers how special I think it is that they celebrate all of life's milestones — lost teeth included. I heard a few joyful Shehecheyanus sung while students held tissues to their gums. I heard teachers singing about lost teeth. I see "lost tooth" charts awaiting new tallies. Kids have been excited to put their tooth in one of Miss Mary's tooth-shaped tooth holders.
You know what I love most about the teeth of Mirowitz students? It's that you've let so many kind words pass by them. I love the way you are all so thoughtful to each other...how you know that it only takes a smile or a "hello" or a "come play with me" to brighten another person's day.
I'm proud of you all...and am honored to be your Tooth Fairy. |

Compliance with masking procedures is the most important thing you and your children can do to ensure continued in-person learning.
All parents, grandparents and babysitters are required to wear a mask when bringing or picking up children from school. Thanks for your cooperation and for helping us get through this stage of the pandemic.

What I do at Mirowitz?
This is my sixth year on the board, and second as president. I chaired strategic planning and was secretary prior to becoming president.
Why I volunteer: Without sounding hokey, I have been doing volunteer work most of my life. I was on NFTY regional board in High School, the Hillel Governing board in college, and an officer of my sorority. I like being involved in organizations that are important to me, so naturally I would want to do anything I can to help this amazing school where my children spend their days.
Highlights:
Reopening the school during the pandemic has definitely been the biggest challenge of my presidency. Second would be finding a new head of school. Successfully navigating both have been incredibly fulfilling, and I am grateful to work with a dedicated team of lay leaders and professionals. This is a group effort, that's for sure!

Your loving kindness, envelop it in Your peace, and bestow Your light and truth upon its leaders, ministers, and advisors, and grace them with Your good counsel. Strengthen the hands of those who defend our holy land, grant them deliverance, and adorn them in a mantle of victory. Ordain peace in the land and grant its inhabitants eternal happiness.
