No school tomorrow!
Your child's teachers will be working report cards.
Stay healthy and enjoy the long weekend.

I proudly wore my favorite Hebrew word today - קהילה (Kehillah). It means community, and it’s one of our school’s core values. It’s also a fitting word during a week when Omicron is keeping some members of our kehillah home.

But I wasn’t the only one wearing a Hebrew word today. Your children wore their favorite words, too! It was part of our celebration of Eliezer Ben Yehuda’s birthday.

Every day, your children have 45 minutes of deep and joyful Hebrew learning. Their teachers work to strengthen their competence in reading, writing, speaking and listening, and also to connect them to the ancient words of Torah, to modern day Israel and to Am Yisrael, Jews around the world.

Knowing Hebrew helps them understand prayer and gives them the ability to pray with intention. It impacts their cultural competence and their personal Jewish identity. It activates their brain, increases their cognitive abilities, and gives them tools to pursue further language learning.

In 5th grade they will go to Machaneh Ivrit, an overnight Hebrew experience where they are challenged to speak only Hebrew for 36 hours and celebrate all they have learned!

If only we could invite Eliezer Ben Yehuda to join us so he could see that to his life’s work gave us such a profound gift.

So, what’s your passion, your dream for how to change history? This Shabbat, go around the table and share the Eliezer Ben Yehuda in each of you. Inspire your children to find the passion and dedication within them to make an impact. Helping them make a difference is our passion, every day at Mirowitz.

לבריאות (to your health),

Cheryl

Don't forget: it's time to sign up for Baseball. If you would like to register your child for a Mirowitz baseball team, please send me an email.
The re-enrollment process will begin after the financial aid committee has completed its work next week. That means:

1. Watch your mail the first week of February for an envelope containing re-enrollment materials

2. If you are planning on applying for tuition assistance do so NOW! The financial aid deadline for returning students for the 2022-23 school year is January 16th. (See application details above.)

If you have additional questions, read answers to Frequently Asked Questions or contact Mary.

In order to give returning students and their siblings priority in the process, the deadline for completing your application for financial aid is January 16.  Applications received after that date will not be included in the initial tuition assistance distribution, and will be considered along with new families who apply by January 31. (See more about how to apply here.)

To be considered, you must submit a financial statement form online

The committee recognizes that the FACTS formula may not portray the whole picture of a family's financial situation. There is a text box on the site in which you may write a letter clarifying your family finances. The financial aid committee takes great care to read these notes.

If you have additional questions, read answers to Frequently Asked Questions or contact Mary.

If you have a pre-schooler, we hope you'll drive thru and invite all of your friends to join you. During the 30 minute (or so) drive-thru, you and your child will participate in activities that feed the hungry, care for the earth and pursue justice.

Free book from PJ Library for the first 75 families to RSVP.

Free, but time slots are limited.

Thanks to all of the parents of newly vaccinated students who have sent me a copy of their child's Covid-19 vaccination card. If you have not yet done so, you can email it to me here.

Relationship to Mirowitz: I'm the mom of 2 Mirowitz students: Samantha (5th grade) and Alex (3rd grade)

Volunteer duties: I'll do whatever you ask me to do! I take photos at events (like MLK Day this Monday), coach basketball, serve lunch, drive on field trips, help with Teacher Appreciation Week...and whatever else is needed. I'm always happy to help this school!

Why do you do it? Volunteering gives me a higher purpose and I enjoy being a part of this community hanging out with my the great friends I've made here.

Fun fact:

My mom worked at the J for 20 yrs. I grew up as a "J Rat" (as we called ourselves) ...which meant I couldn't get away with anything naughty because everyone knew my mom. Now I'm trying to do the same thing for my girls. 😆

We know! Omicron!
But we could really use some lunch volunteers. PLUS...it's a great chance to see your child mid-day.
