After a year of recruiting over Zoom, it's so wonderful to be able to welcome prospective parents for tours this year. I met a parent in the hallway this week who asked my favorite question: What difference does a Jewish Day School make? I could have kept her there all day.

I started with the empirical evidence. A national study on day school graduates shows that:

• Day school grads express an extraordinary sense of responsibility toward influencing social values, helping those in need and effecting social change. Alumni parents surveyed consistently say that Mirowitz prepared their child to be an advocate for others.
• Day school graduates are more resistant to social pressures that lead to risky behaviors than their public and private school peers. (See Prizmah study)
• Jewish day school students are equipped with Jewish literacy and a proficient knowledge of prayer.
We love that community rabbis rely on our graduates to teach their religious school classes, to lead youth services and to serve as youth ambassadors to their boards.
• Graduates of day schools are predisposed to use their leadership skills to strengthen Jewish communities. At a gathering of student leaders at the Hillel foundation, 70 percent indicated that they had attended a Jewish day school. 100 percent of alumni parents surveyed say their Mirowitz graduates were involved in Jewish studies and community organizations during high school.
• Jewish day school students develop a profound commitment to Israel. Our alumni tell us they feel well informed about Israel and comfortable engaging in discussion about Israel on campus.
• As St. Louis' only pluralistic Jewish day school, Mirowitz fosters a value of diversity and the ability to maintain relationships that preserve the diversity of our community.

At Mirowitz, all of that is combined with the highest quality of academics and daily discussions about living an ethical and just life.

Hundreds of parent testimonials like this one affirm it: “I think it is fair to say that my son's foundation of responsibility, academic success and positive Jewish identity were solidified at Mirowitz! It was the best parenting decision we could have made.” –  Ann, alumni parent class of 2018.

I hope you, too, feel the tangible and intangible benefits of your Mirowitz decision. And if you do, please share your love by encouraging your friends to come take a tour. And I'll hope to run into your friends in the hallway soon, happy to answer their questions about the impact of a Mirowitz childhood.

Shabbat Shalom,

Cheryl

The Mirowitz 3rd/4th grade team came back from a 3-0 deficit to tie 4-4 Sunday.  Noah scored twice. Yoni and Davi each earned 1 point. The team currently sits with a record of 1-1-3.
Our 5th/6th grade team lost their lone match this week, 7-0 to Immanuel Lutheran of St. Charles.
The 1st/2nd grade girls team improved to 3-1 Sunday when they won their game 2-1. Isabel and Ella scored.
The 1st grade boys ended in a 3-3 tie, giving up the tying goal with about four minutes to play. Aaron, Daniel and Amitai each scored. The team improved to 2-1-1.

Relationship to Mirowitz: Grandmother of  Aiden (8th grade), Laya and Davin (3rd grade), past students Cole, David, and Spencer Levison and future student, Evie Levison (K 22-23).  Daughter of Saul and Barbara Mirowitz.

Volunteer Duties: I have been volunteering in the Kindergarten classrooms for many years. When my own grandchildren started attending the school, I began teaching lessons in their classrooms. As more grandchildren began attending and as they progressed through the grades, I began teaching lessons in more and more classrooms. I also have chaired the gala and served on several committees of the board.

Why do you do it?

I love being immersed in such a happy place where laughter abounds and creative learning is everywhere.

What’s a fun fact that we can share about you?

I also have twin sisters and two sets of twin grandchildren, who have all attended Jewish day schools.
