We're glad so many of you were able to join us for our Zoom with the Medical Advisory Team! If you missed it, you can find the recording below.
The Coronavirus Pandemic continues to evolve, and we are adjusting our plans for keeing your children safe. Even since our last Headlines email, guidance from the St. Louis County Department of Health and the CDC has changed. Please always refer to the latest Headlines for the most recent plans and information.
If you have questions, please email them to me. I look forward to ongoing communication with each of you.

How will we stay healthy this year?
- Keep your children home if they may be ill. We will not conduct daily screenings. PLEASE monitor your children for temperature of >100.4 degrees, cough, fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting or other symptoms that require observation, isolation or medical treatment.
- Follow protocols for a safe return to school after illness.
- Inform the school nurse immediately if anyone in your immediate family contracts COVID-19 or is in close contact with a person with COVID-19.
- The school will implement mitigation strategies to protect the health of everyone in the community by decreasing the risk of secondary viral spread. This email outlines some of these strategies.

Masking:
- Indoors: All adults and students must be masked in the building at all times regardless of vaccination status. Mask breaks can be taken under strict routines for eating and drinking, for nose blowing and for simple breaks. These routines will be presented and practiced on the first day of school. Adults who are fully vaccinated may choose to unmask when in an office or room with no other people present.
- Outdoors at Mirowitz: If students are in mixed age groups, they must mask outside. Students and vaccinated adults may unmask outdoors during recess ONLY when they are with students in their own grade level. If they are playing games that are in consistent proximity (such that if a player were infected, others would require a quarantine), they will be asked to mask. Teachers will make those judgments in consultation with our school nurse.
|
|
Adults in the building:
While students are in the building, all adult employees, visitors and volunteers must be vaccinated and masked at all times.
- All employees, visitors and volunteers must show proof of vaccination.
- A maximum of one volunteer per classroom will be permitted at a time.
- Two lunch volunteers (vaccinated and masked) will be needed each day from 11:10 - 1 p.m. We hope you will sign up to help! You will have an opportunity to do so next week.
|
|
Keeping a safe distance and clean hands
- All students and adults must sanitize hands as they enter the school and each time they touch communal objects. This eliminates the spread of COVID and other diseases and reduces the number of absences and unnecessary COVID tests.
- Students will be separated by an acrylic barrier any time they are unmasked for eating, drinking, etc. In school gatherings (such as t’fillah and Kabbalat Shabbat), students will sit with their grade level, separated from other grade levels by at least 3 feet. Seats will be assigned to minimize quarantines.
|
|
Quarantine:
- What will happen if someone gets COVID-19 in your child’s class?
Nurse Beca will conduct contract tracing and consult with the health department for instructions. We will follow the most recent quarantine guidelines. Students will have assigned seats in the classroom, lunch room and during gatherings such as t’fillah and Kabbalat Shabbat to make contact tracing possible.
- What if my child’s class is quarantined? Parents will be notified as soon as the health department makes a determination. Remote learning will be delayed a full day to allow the teacher time to prepare, and to give us time to assemble student devices and materials for pick up. Your child’s teacher will distribute a schedule with appropriate Zoom links for remote learning.
- Remote Learning: Remote learning is only available for cases of COVID-19 related quarantines.
See current St. Louis County Quarantine Requirements HERE.
|
|
Covid-19 Vaccinations
All adult employees are required to be vaccinated in conformity with employment laws.
We may require vaccination for students in the future. Students with proof of vaccination may be able to forgo quarantines or have additional unmasking opportunities in the future.
If your children have received a COVID-19 vaccination, please send Nurse Beca a copy of the vaccination record for our files.
Other Vaccinations
Please submit copies of your child’s required medical documentation by August 1. Immunizations and physical exams are required for all Kindergarteners, 4th graders, 7th graders and new students.

Sports, Enrichment and Aftercare
- Volleyball: Indoor volleyball competitions have been canceled because other schools in the league have canceled their competetive volleyball games. We will still hold practices and scrimmage games for the team.
- Soccer: We are still planning on playing competetive soccer since the sport is played outdoors.
- All coaches and adults in proximity to our students from other teams must be vaccinated.
- Spectators: Unfortunately, we cannot have spectators at this time.
- Enrichment: We will be offering these enrichment activities and will keep participating students masked and separated by a safe distance.
- Aftercare: Aftercare is back! Consider making a commitment for the full year to be eligible for an extremely reduced rate. The drop-in rate is $25 a day and is available when space allows. If you have not yet enrolled in aftercare, you may do so here.
|
|
Lunch
- Students will retrieve their purchased lunch from the lunch room. It will be served by Chef AJ with two adult volunteers from behind acrylic barriers.
- On good weather days, classes will eat outside. When weather does not allow outdoor dining, students will proceed to tables with acrylic barriers. Only 6 students will be allowed to sit at each table.
- We have added a third lunch session to minimize the number of students in the lunch room at any one time. We will have seating charts which will change each Rosh Chodesh (the first day of the Jewish month).
|
|
Arrival
- All students will be dropped off in the carpool line in front of the building. Please enter through the Mirowitz entrance of Mason Road, turn right and circle the perimeter of the lot. PLEASE do not drive down a center lane or pull ahead of other cars unless directed to do so by the administrator on duty.
- We will not conduct temperature checks, nor will you need to complete the BeSafe app. However, you are still required to keep your children at home if they show any symptoms.
- Before-care students may be dropped off at 7:30 a.m. They will meet in the gym or outside, depending on the weather. Students will be directed to the appropriate location.
- Middle school students should arrive between 7:45-7:55 a.m. so they can be ready for class to begin at 8 a.m.
- Elementary students may arrive between 8-8:20 a.m. Students who arrive before 8:20 a.m. will proceed to the gym or outside for a supervised recess. This recess is provided at no additional charge. At 8:20 a.m., all students will go to their classrooms and prepare for school to begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. PLEASE bring your elementary-aged children to school no later than 8:20 a.m. so they have time to use the restroom, sharpen their pencils, turn in homework and greet their friends.
Dismissal:
- Carpool will take place in back of the building from 3:30-3:40 p.m. Drive into the north B'nai Amoona entrance off Mason Road and proceed around the back of the building. If you do not arrive by 3:40 p.m., your children will be sent to aftercare and you will be charged a $25 drop-in fee.
- You also may park in a designated parking spot and walk up to the front door to meet your child. A staff member will be either outside or in the vesibule to to call your child. DO NOT park in the fire lane.
- To pick up your child from enrichment or aftercare, pull up in front of school and call the office. We will bring your child out to you. Aftercare teachers are hired only until 6 p.m., so please plan to arrive before that time

Even if your account is not yet set-up, please go ahead and make any August lunch selections using the online form.
Fast Pass: We offer the option to prepay for the entire year. Students bypass the cashier line, parents avoid filling out the monthly form and save 100.00 by choosing this option. Please make checks out to Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School in the amount of $1061 and turn in to the office. Please also send an email to me indicating you would like to enroll. The program is not prorated, so the quicker you sign up, the more you save. Refunds not available.
COVID Concerns: I am certified by the Canteen COVID and Compassion Safety & Hospitality training which were developed in consultation with Cleveland Clinic, and certified by Mérieux NutriSciences. Bistro Kids has developed extensive cleaning and disinfecting standards which play an equally important part in keeping me and the school community safe. All meals will be served by masked and vaccinated staff and volunteers from behind a plexiglass barrier. Students will eat outside as much as possible.
Add-On Meals: While we discourage same day add-on lunches, we understand things come up from time to time. Add-on lunches are available while supplies last, and are assessed a $1 service fee. Same-day add-on orders are accepted up until 9 AM. Please email me should you need this option.
Cancellations: If you ordered lunch and your student will be absent, you may email me up until 9 AM to cancel.
Food Allergy Information: Bistro Kids does not use tree nuts or peanuts in recipes, but does source ingredients made in facilities that also process tree nuts and peanuts. Some items may contain milk, soy, sesame, wheat, fish, and/or eggs. Bistro Kids washes, rinses, and sanitizes all equipment, but this does not guarantee that individuals with a food allergy will not become ill due to cross contamination. If a member of your family has an allergy to any food, please contact me directly, and I will work as best as I can to ensure your child's safety. Consuming undercooked seafood may increase your risk of food borne illness.
