Our final week of school is here! To be perfectly honest, I am astounded we made it. An entire year of in-person school seemed an impossible dream when we opened our doors to your children in August. The obstacles were enormous. They took their toll on our faculty and staff. But we made it!

The recipe was simple.

We are mission driven. Fifty-one faculty and staff showed up every single day to fill your children’s days with meaning. They showed up even though we were scared for their lives. Why? Because they were fiercely driven to enact our values.

They know that if we all do our jobs right and raise our students to be curious, ethical and kind, the world will be a better place.

We believe in science. Using our expert medical advisors, the St. Louis County Department of Health, the CDC and countless educational webinars from our local and national networks, we learned how to best protect our students and faculty.

Our medical team helped us discern between opinion and data, and to understand how to keep this mysterious virus from interrupting learning for your children.

We had YOU! Our parents, our board and our community lifted our spirits with unprecedented support, with PTO gifts and coffee truck events, with personal notes, with partnership and gratitude.

Thank you for your patience with a day that was shorter, a program that was pared down, and a faculty and staff that was under tremendous stress. Thank you for caring about Jewish day school education and sticking with us even though you probably felt less connected than ever. Thank you for the hours you volunteered and for remembering us in your philanthropy.

Mix up these ingredients, and It all adds up to an extraordinary year, where 185 students enjoyed in person school, profound education, memorable moments and social interaction. Let’s close the year with joy, love and gratitude for the faculty and staff, for our students and for each other!

Shabbat Shalom,

Morah Cheryl

One of the exciting parts of having a ShinShin at our school is that Mirowitz families get to be host families for a few months. Part of their learning is spending time with American Jewish families. The Bialecki, Goldenberg and Neiss families have offered a home away from home for Gilad this year!

Would you like to be a host for our 21-22 ShinShin, Shelly? Here are the qualifications:
- Host familes must have a dedicated bedroom for Shelly.
- Host families should not have high school-aged boys at home.
- Host families will feed their guest and have mealtime together. Shelly will also join family outings.
- Host families should be American with kids attending Mirowitz.
Sound exciting? Let Becky know.
We recognize that many families have had to adjust their child's Bar or Bat Mitzvah dates. Please help us maintain an accurate, up-to-date listing of where and when your family will be celebrating your children sending an email to Reb Scott with the following information:
     1. Your child's name
     2. Month/Date/Year of bar/bat mitzvah
     3. Synagogue/Temple/Institution
Did you open your Jewish Light to the Ohr Chadash page this week? If so, you'll see that EVERY article was written by a Mirowitz student or alumnus.
Jordan Eisen and Ilana Boyer wrote a story about the Mirowitz 8th grade camping trip! You can read it here.
Mirowitz 8th grader Daniel Shanker wrote a story about teens looking forward to summer camps reopening. You can read it here.
Noah Sentnor's (class of 2018) article about how gardening nourishes the soil AND the soul.
We are so proud of our students who use the writing skills they honed at Mirowitz and the voices we encouraged them to use in their reporting about their ideals and perspectives.

And Kol Hakavod also to their advisor, Mirowitz Mom Caroline Goldenberg

5th and 6th graders had a modified version of Machaneh Ivrit (Hebrew Camp) this week! They played Israeli games, cooked shakshuka, potatos and pita over the fire Israeli style, and spoke only in Hebrew for a few hours! Next year, we look forward to bringing back this treasure of a 5th grade overnight!
Mirowitz alumni often say that one of their most defining childhood moments happened in 3rd grade when they chanted Torah for the first time!

Kol Hakavod to 3rd graders Edan and Zev who led the entire school in Torah study Thursday!
And to AJ, Sydney and Caleb who read Torah in the Middle School.

a Bat Mitzvah this weekend. (Throw back and recent photos below.)

Your lovingkindness, envelop it in Your peace, and bestow Your light and truth upon its leaders, ministers, and advisors, and grace them with Your good counsel. Strengthen the hands of those who defend our holy land, grant them deliverance, and adorn them in a mantle of victory. Ordain peace in the land and grant its inhabitants eternal happiness.

I am collecting dance shoes and costumes to give to dancers in need. I am partnering with the organization Donate 2 Dance.

In the vestibule, you will find a bright pink box where you can put your donations. Please rubber band dance shoes together and put costumes in ziplock bags. (There are rubber bands and bags in the box.) Donations will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater St. Louis and other local dancers in need. If you would like to donate money instead of dancewear, please Venmo my Dad (@JeffreyWax) and put "Donate2Dance" in the memo line.

I appreciate your support of this project!

Thank you,
Eliana Wax, 6th grade
