It makes sense that a school that is all helping children become their best selves also hires faculty and staff who are seeking to become their best selves. A desire for personal and intellectual growth is a key indicator that we look for in hiring, and a component of our continuous quest for improvement.

No, we are never satisfied with status quo, not even during a pandemic. Here’s what Mirowitz “becoming its best” looks like right now:

  • Our Hebrew faculty is working with two outside coaches to complete our transition to the Proficiency Approach. Every two weeks, they spend the day learning, writing curriculum and aligning their Hebrew teaching to the ACTFL standards for teaching foreign languages.
  • This week, we welcomed new faculty members who share our love of learning. Morah Roxana Lichtman delivers learning support in Hebrew class and is a third permanent sub. Morah Tina Garcia has joined our academic support team as a full-time learning specialist.
  • Our literacy teachers are working together to incorporate more phonics into reading lessons in grades K-2.
  • We are working to improve the culture and milieu of our school in many ways, but most significantly by incorporating Diversity, Equity and Inclusion into every area of school life. Our faculty and administration are engaged in deep learning about systemic racism, and are beginning to scratch the surface of making sure Mirowitz is part of the solution.
We have the sacred responsibility of being your partners in raising a generation of leaders who celebrate every individual for who they are, made B'tzelem Elohim, in the image of God.

Your children deserve the best. They deserve the best teachers, the best curricula and the best community. They deserve a school that guides them to become their best selves, and at the same time, consistently works to become ITS best self as an institution. After all, they only have one childhood, and we are determined, as your partners, to fill it with meaning.

96...97...98...99...100 days of in person school...and we celebrated all day Tuesday!

- We brought in collections of 100 things: Pennies, chocolates, ear swabs and marshmallows.

- We went on a seek-and-find to find the numerals 1 through 100, and posted them in numerical order.

- We flipped a coin 100 times to find the probability of heads to tails.

- We counted to 100 in Hebrew and wrote 100 Hebrew words we already know!

- We counted by ones, by twos, by fives, by tens.

- We considerd 100 things we have learned this year at school...together...in person! It's been a great 100 days, and we are all grateful!

We are delighted to welcome a new full time academic support teacher to our learning support team! Tina Garcia joined us Wednesday.
Tina Garcia worked for many years with the Clayton School District, where she was both a classroom teacher and learning specialist. She has a masters in educational administration and a special education director certificate. Feel free to send her a welcome at  tgarcia@mirowitz.org.
You should have received your tuition contract for the 2021-22 school year. We cannot wait to share another meaningful year with your children. Please return your contracts by February 26. After that date, tuition will increase by $500.

We may not see you every day as we did when you were younger,  as an alumnus of Mirowitz, Solomon Schechter or RJA, you continue to be an intergral part of our community. We hope the years you spent with us continue to add meaning to your life and make you smile.

We would like to do a better job connecting with you, and keeping you connected to your former classmates. We have an Alumni Facebook page where we periodically post photos. You can use that space to stay in touch with us and with each other.

Please also send us your updated contact information. We are planning a special Zoom reunion for you after the Mirowitz Gala on May 2.  And let us know about your achievements so we can sufficiently brag about you!

We look forward to being in touch!

A Purim Tzedakah Collection

As part of fulfilling the mitzvah of Matanot la’evyonim for Purim, Vaad Chessed is sponsoring a women's hygiene drive. For the next few weeks leading up to Purim, we will be collecting various products to give to Gateway 180, an emergency homeless shelter in downtown St. Louis. We are especially looking for new socks, pads, tampons, unused masks, bars of soap, hand sanitizer, shampoo, and conditioner. We will place a bucket in the lobby, so your children can drop supplies there.

Thank you so much, and Chag Purim Sameach!

More than ever, we are so thankful to be part of the wonderful Mirowitz community where kids are really put first, where they are cared for and loved, and where they are taught to be good, kind, caring people. Our boys are both thriving, as we knew they would.

Grandparents of 35 Mirowitz families joined their grandchildren last night — from 10 states coast to coast! — for a Purim-themed challah baking Zoom night out! In the Purim tradition of gift giving, they made one challah to keep, and one to share with someone who could use a bit of joy this Shabbat. Thanks to Grandparents Circle Chair Gay Goldenberg and to Morah Rachy for the cooking lesson...and to all the bakers who joined us!

Many thanks for organizing such a joyful and meaningful "Grandparent Date Night." If the creativity of the evening is any indication, there is no doubt that Sophia is building a basis for knowledge, growth and maturity.
